Marine major, former instructor accused of raping mid

Marine Maj. Mark Thompson was accused of raping one female midshipman and having a consensual relationship with another while still serving as a history instructor at the Naval Academy. He was found guilty of one count of indecent acts, two counts of conduct unbecoming an officer and two counts of fraternization. He was found not guilty of rape.

I reported from his court martial at the Washington Navy Yard all week, filing five web stories in addition to a final overview for the June 10 issue of Navy and Marine Corps Times.

Web stories covered jury selection, opening statements, the accuser’s testimony, closing arguments and sentencing.
